- Ischaemic heart disease

Heart disease is the number one killer of men. The Australian Heart Foundation Website reports that every day approximately 98 Australian men have a heart attack. Approximately 1 in 7 of these men will die. The underlying cause of a heart attack is coronary heart disease.
If you’re over 45 years of age or worried about heart disease, ask your doctor about a heart health risk check.
To reduce your risk of a heart attack (or to aid your recovery if you have suffered one), you should:
- Be smoke free and avoid second hand smoke
- Enjoy healthy eating
- Be physically active
- Achieve and maintain a healthy body weight
- Maintain your social and emotional health
- Control your blood pressure and cholesterol, as advised by your health professional
- Take medicines, prescribed by your doctor
The National Bowel Cancer Screening Program (NBCSP) invites Australians aged over 50 to screen for bowel cancer using a simple test at home.
Australia has one of the highest rates of bowel cancer in the world.
Around one in 23 Australians will develop bowel cancer during their lifetime. Screening is currently recommended in males and females every 2 years until age 75. Early detection is the best cure!!
For more information on bowel cancer screening or to arrange for your bowel cancer screening test please speak to your GP at Better Health Family Clinic.
